In cooperation with the City of Hamburg and its citizens, the principle of working, living and residing is implemented at the Rödingsmarkt Hamburg. Because of its distinctive building substance, robust structure and large floor space, the multi-storey car park is well suited to serve as a pilot project and incubator for the neighbourhood. The former car park will become the heart of the neighbourhood and serve as its motor for implementing new energy and mobility concepts at neighbourhood level. At the same time, the necessary infrastructure and logistics will be provided. Cross-cutting loading centres will be set up close to the main traffic axes and decentralised distribution warehouses, so-called micro-logistics hubs, will be set up at traffic junctions, from where the last mile will be covered by cargo bicycles, small electrical vehicles or delivery robots. By 2035, the inner city area is to be gradually converted to a car-free zone and former roads and car parks are to be largely unsealed.
